About Coconut shell activated carbon

Coconut activated shells is a necessary product for water purification, dust cleaning and deodorizing.

What is activated carbon?

Activated carbon: is a form of carbon that was dealt to have have small tiny holes to increase the surface square for absorbing and chemical reaction. Due to high level of capillary, only 1 mg of carbon has the surface square over 3000 m2 , determined by absorbing air methods.

Ingredients for activated carbon

Activated carbon is made from many type of coal, charcoal, eucalyptus branches, peanut skin, husk and mostly, coconut shells

What is Coconut shells activated carbon?

Coconut shells activated carbon are made from dry coconut shells with humidity lower than 15% and created through carbonization and activation process.

In Vietnam, the main ingredients used to created activated carbon are coconut shells and bamboos in which coconut shell is the best of all due to being the best carbonization ingredients. Beside of that, coconut shells are strong and have high iodine rate, which are being more concentrated in development, especially in the South.

Coconut shell activated carbon structure

The contact surface square of a coconut shell activated carbon is much bigger than other activated carbon due to having more hollow capillary structure and much more smaller. Therefore, it has the advantage of purifying highly small dust particles. Other than that, when speaking of adhesiveness, coconut shell activated carbon has a higher activation rate than other regular activated carbon.

Hardeness and stabitlity of coconut shell activated carbon

Stable hardeness, hardly breakable are the characteristic of coconut shell activated carbon. For example, try breaking an activated shell, we will see that coconut shell activated carbon is harder to break than any other activated carbon. Therefore, it is less consume in water purification process.

Coconut shell activated carbon is not easy to be burned

Micro activated carbon is activated in a temperature environment from 950o C to 1100o C, which is very hard to be burned.

The characteristics of coconut shell activated carbon

Bright smooth black, dry coal, equally, low ashes are the characters of coconut shell activated carbon. Testing by droping some coal into the water, if there are bubbles floating up and the water is not cloudiness much, that means that the coconut shell activated carbon is qualified. The quality of coconut shell activated carbon can also be justified by the following index:

pH Valune 7.5 – 10

iodine mgm/gm 700 – 2000

CTC 35 – 90

Moisture (max) 5%

Hardness (%) 90 - 98
